Gin & tonic water is one of the most classic combinations of any drink. The citrusy, slightly savoury notes of gin are highlighted by the bitter quinine and sweet flavours of tonic water. Beefeater Gin is a common sight in bars around the world, representing a British classic gin in the London Dry style. So when we were putting together matched sets of bottles of gin with six packs of tonic water, of course we had to include a set for Beefeater.
The classic set: Beefeater Gin with Schweppes Tonic Water
The first set we put together marries up Beefeater Gin with Schweppes Tonic Water. This combination is found at pubs across the UK and beyond, so we couldn't not include it in our list of Gin & Tonic Water sets. The Beefeater Gin has a lemony, citrusy taste, which fits to the sweet flavours of Schweppes Tonic Water. Beefeater Gin dates back to the 19th century and is responsible for setting the standard of what we think a London dry gin should be. It fast became a classic and is now one the most recognisable gin brands. However, it has quite complex and bold flavours, and as such it needs a strong tonic water to match up to it – which is what makes Schweppes Tonic Water a suitable choice.
The luxury set: Beefeater 24 Gin and Fentimans Tonic Water
For those who love to indulge themselves with the very best products, they'll want to try our luxury set of Beefeater 24 Gin and Fentimans Tonic Water. Beefeater 24 is a premium gin from the Beefeater portfolio, which is made with blend of botanicals like grapefruit peel, rare Japanese Sencha, and Chinese green tea as well as the traditional botanicals for gin like juniper berries. The use of tea flavours in the gin was inspired by the father of James Burrough, the man who started the Beefeater company in 1862. His father was a tea merchant and hence inspired the idea of adding tea flavours to the gin to complement the dark notes of juniper.
To match with Beefeater 24 Gin, we've chosen Fentimans Tonic Water. This high-end tonic water is also from Britain, and the company was established in 1905. So you can see that this is the perfect match of classic, old-fashioned, high-quality British brands of both gin and tonic water. If you're planning a dinner party and you're wondering about the ideal drinks to serve your guests as they arrive, this set is what you need! Mix in proportions of 1 part gin to 3-4 parts tonic water, serve over ice, and garnish with a lemon slice.
Exciting additions to your Beefeater Gin and Tonic Water drinks
Now you've got your set of Beefeater Gin and a matching tonic water, you can mix up great G&Ts – but what if you fancy something new? There are a few ways you can add your own twist to this great drink. Firstly, try adding a few dashes of bitters such as Angostura. They give a depth of flavour which brings out the botanicals in gin. Alternatively, play with the garnishes, and instead of the traditional lemon or lime slice, try a different citrus like grapefruit, or a dried botanical like a few juniper berries.
