Berliner Brandstifter is a small-batch spirits producer based in Berlin, Germany, which makes gin, vodka, and a traditional German spirit called kornbrand. Berlin is a city which is known around the world for its creative and relaxed ethos, and this attitude is reflected in their gin. Berliner Brandstifter's founder was inspired by his grandfather, who also distilled spirits, and he started his own gin production using small-batch distillation methods and ingredients from the local Berlin area.

Berliner Brandstifter Dry Gin is a hand-crafted spirit

The inspiration for Berliner Brandstifter Dry Gin is the plants and herbs which grow in the Berlin area, which could be used to bring a unique flavour to the gin. The flavourings used in gin are called botanicals, and they are added to the spirit during the distillation process. You can use all sorts of botanicals to flavour gin, including herbs, fruits, vegetables, and other plants. By using plants which grow nearby in Berlin, Berliner Brandstifter have created a gin with a unique flavour profile which reflects the tastes of the city.

The botanicals used in the gin are grown on a small farm in Speisegut, just outside of the main city of Berlin. They include elderflowers, mallow flowers, woodruff, and more. These botanicals give the gin the delicate scent of a meadow in spring, with sweet and floral notes balanced by bitter herbal flavours. This makes for a balanced and elegant gin with an unusual and distinctly Berlin flavour.

Berliner Brandstifter makes a delicious gin & tonic

Once you've got a bottle of Berlin-style gin, what should you do with it? Well we have plenty of suggestions! A bottle makes a great gift for a friend or family member, especially if they've ever been to Berlin. Or this gin is the ideal addition to your home bar. You can either drink it pure (yes! It's smooth and delicious enough to drink neat!) or have it in a mixed drink or cocktail.

One of our all-time favourite drinks is a gin & tonic, for which you could try another Berlin product like Thomas Henry's terrific tonic water. Or you could make a Negroni (gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth in equal quantities, served in a rocks glass over a large chunk of ice, with a few dashes of Angostura bitters if you fancy it). Or if you're feeling adventurous and you enjoy bold herbal flavours which will be amplified by the Berlin taste, try a Last Word (that's gin, lime juice, green Chartreuse, and Maraschino liqueur in equal quantities, shake with ice and served up in a martini glass and garnished with a lime twist).

To try this distinctive Berlin spirit, pick up a bottle now from our online shop, and you can have the taste of Berlin delivered directly to your door!
