Those who take a sip of this drink will surely find holiness: Momentum Gin. This is due to an ingredient, basil, taking the centre stage in this drink. This is not the ordinary type of basil you may find in your very own kitchen but rather the very exclusive tulsi basil. Tulsi is Sanskrit for "the unparalleled". This type of basil is also called Holy Basil in India and was exclusively consumed by kings and pharaohs way back in the day.
For Momentum Gin, which is produced by the Munich-based Beverage Concierge GmbH & Co. KG, a neutral alcohol is first distilled from finest wheat. Then a selection of 10 botanicals - including tulsi basil, juniper, lavender and winter savoury - is heated and then left to cool over night. Come next morning, the essential oils and the neutral alcohol undergo a gradual distillation. In a span of several days, the drink is reduced to an alcohol level of 44%.
For the production of Momentum Gin, neither a chill filtration nor the addition of artificial aromas or flavour enhancer are put to use. This results in a very straight and highly aromatic gin that amazes neat as well as in several mixed drinks.
