Siegfried Rheinland Dry Gin, available to purchase in the online shop here at Urban Drinks, is named after the character Siegfried from the classic German legend the Niebelungensage. This dragon-slayer?s greatest triumph wasn?t foretold in the Middle Ages to which the epic poem can be dated, and none of the 13th Century manuscripts that remain today were able to predict it. They didn?t see Siegfried on his way to claiming the title of best gin in the world for himself. But that?s what our brave hero did. Or rather, that?s what the Rheinland gin?s producer Raphael Vollmar did for him. Either way, it?s time we raised a glass of Siegfried Rheinland Dry Gin to our boy with the linden leaf on his shoulder.

Siegfried Rheinland Dry Gin: a salute to Siegfried!

Siegfried?s story, for those who don?t know it, ultimately comes to an end because a linden leaf landed on his shoulder. Cue solidarity from Raphael Vollmar, who decided to employ linden as a botanical in his gin. The salute to the German hero Siegfried has truly repayed itself for Vollmar, whose gin was awarded double gold and crowned the best gin in the world at the 2015 World Spirits Awards in Copenhagen. It seems that though linden may have weakened poor Siegfried, it does the trick pretty well in gin.

The Rheinland gin and its Rheinland creator Vollmar therefore have a lot to be proud of. The gin is produced exclusively in small batches from a total of 18 botanicals. The dragon blood of Siegfried?s bath is unfortunately not an ingredient in the gin. Produced in the Rheinland according to a recipe which is largely kept secret, Siegfried gin is distinguished by the centrality of the linden. This innovative touch has helped Siegfried Rheinland Dry Gin on its way to extraordinary heights in the spirit world, and as far as German gin goes it?s certainly up there with the best. For anyone who likes gin, this is certainly not one to miss.

Siegfried Rheinland Gin is not just a gin for if your name is Siegfried, and is available outside of the Rheinland

Siegfried Rheinland Dry Gin can?t hide the linden leaves in its aroma. Alongside this pleasant tone and the Rheinland gin?s juniper scent comes a spicy trace. On the palate the juniper dominates the impression of the gin. Linden is indelible ? sorry Siegfried ? while on ice, the gin releases a sweet tone of honey.

In terms of drinking Siegfried Rheinland Dry Gin, which is available to purchase in the online shop here at Urban Drinks, you obviously can?t go wrong with a gin & tonic. The juniper can be dominant, so a sharp garnish like a wedge of lime does a nice job. If you?re in the Niebelungen mood and can?t find any dragon blood, have a go at the Red Snapper:

  • 60ml Siegfried Rheinland Dry Gin
  • 120ml tomato juice
  • 15ml lemon juice
  • A few dashes of Tabasco
  • A few dashes of Worcestershire sauce
  • A pinch of celery salt
  • A pinch of pepper

Line your glass with a salt and pepper rim. Add all of the ingredients into a shaker and shake them up. Strain the mixture over your glass and garnish with a touch of celery.
