Glenfiddich 15 Solera

The Glenfiddich 15 Solera is a special whisky from the Scottish distillery Glenfiddich. It is stored for 15 years in three different types of casks. It is also the first 15-year-old whisky to make it into the top 10 of the world's best-selling single malts. The colour of Glenfiddich 15 Solera is bright, golden and reminiscent of honey.

Storage

Aging takes place in three different wooden barrels. It matures in European and American oak barrels and in new American oak barrels (Oloroso, Bourbon and new oak barrels). In the end, the whiskies, which have been stored for at least 15 years in each of the barrels, are combined in a Solera VAT. The Solera VAT is an oversized wooden barrel.
When filling from the same barrel, only half of the VAT content is removed. The other half re-maining in the barrel is filled with further barrels of Glenfiddich 15 Solera VAT.

Nosing

The nose shows the trademark of the whiskies from the Glenfiddich distillery - the fruity char-acter. In addition to sweet heather honey, it is mainly pear, apple and peach that stand out. Dried fruits such as sultanas, plums and raisins can also be seen. The vanilla is more discreet, but pro-vides a successful and at the same time spicy balance.

Taste

In the Glenfiddich 15 Solera VAT the fruity base dominates the taste again. It exudes a slight warmth in the mouth, which rounds off the complex combination of fruit and vanilla very well. In addition to a mild spice, where marzipan, cinnamon and ginger are noticeable, there is also a hint of oak. Glenfiddich 15 Solera demonstrates a long, full and complex finish. Here, too, the persis-tent sweetness is particularly present. Both caramel tones and the classic wood aroma of the whisky remain noticeably long on the palate.

Awards

In addition to a place in the top 10 of the world's best-selling single malts, the Glenfiddich 15 Solera has also won a number of other awards. In 2013 the whisky received the silver medal in the "International Spirits Challenge" (ISC). In 2012 the Glenfiddich 15 Solera was awarded the Goldme-daille for outstanding performance by the "International Wine & Spirit Competition" (IWSC).
