The Sazerac is the official cocktail of New Orleans. It is rather similar to an Old Fashioned apart from the fact that it comes with a stronger kick. One of its main ingredients is bitters - and there is only one special type of bitters qualified to bring that certain something for the cocktail: Peychaud’s Aromatic Cocktail Bitters. The latter is produced with the use of gentian and is therefore slightly sweeter than angostura bitters and comes with more floral aromas. There is no doubt about your Sazerac ending up as an absolute treat!
Before mixing the actual cocktail you take your tumbler glass and rinse it with a good splash of absinthe and fill it with crushed ice. Then you give 5 cl cognac or rye whisky together with one sugar cube and two dashes of bitters on ice into a glass and stir it. Discard the ice from the tumbler and strain your cocktail into the glass. You now got yourself a nice Sazerac!
