The historic drink has existed since the beginning of the 19th century

The forefather of the Picon Amer, the Amer African, was developed by Gaétan Picon in the 19th century. As with many quinine-containing drinks, this creation was originally a kind of medicine designed to help the colonial army fight a bad fever in the hot climate of Algeria.
