The Barbancourt Rum story begins in 1862 with one Dupré Barbancourt. This was when Barbancourt put the finishing touches to his unique rum recipe. Unique because Barbancourt wrote into his recipe that his rum should be distilled twice. This idea he borrowed from the production method used to create the most exquisite cognacs. In demanding double-distillation for his rum, Barbancourt ensured that it would be among the finest, head and shoulders above lesser rums. His rum dynasty would last over 150 years, because Barbancourt Rum, which is available to purchase in the online shop here at Urban Drinks, is still at the top of the rum game in 2015. Despite the fact that Barbancourt left no heir upon his death, Barbancourt Rum is still a family concern. Through Barbancourt's wife and then his wife's nephew, the rum producing operation came into the hands of the Garnére family, where it has remained until today ? despite efforts from Wyclef Jean to buy the firm.
Barbancourt's legacy: three cheers to Dupré Barbancourt for his excellent rum!
Still produced in Barbancourt's (and Wyclef's) home, Haiti, Barbancourt Rum has become one of the Caribbean nation's most famous exports. In 1952, the distillery moved locations and expanded, allowing Barbancourt Rum to export their product for the first time. It was also at this time that the first bottles of Barbancourt's aged rums went on public sale ? they had previously been produced exclusively for the private pleasure of the Gardére family. Barbancourt Rum is produced without the use of molasses syrup, viewed as something of a short-cut by the proud producers of this rum, who boast of only using pure sugar cane juice. All the Barbancourt Rum varieties you'll find available to purchase in our online shop are aged, whether the 2 year-old white rum or its 4, 8, and 15 year-old siblings.
