Rye whiskey is great tradition in the USA, where it is made using the rye crops which grow in the Southern states. Old Overholt Rye has been produced since 1810 and uses is made from 100% rye grain. Since these early days, the taste has remained virtually unchanged, and hence it makes the perfect based for mixed drinks, to which it lends an unmistakably nostalgic tone.
Behind this whiskey are producers Abraham Overhalt and his brother. They are known as pioneers among American master distillers since they started the West Overton Distilling Company in Pennsylvania. Since Prohibition, the brand has been produced under the Beam Suntory manufacturer.
Thanks to its long maturation period, Old Overholt Rye has a very soft and mild taste. It is a balanced dry whiskey in which a subtle sweetness is crisscrossed by fruity notes. The finish is rich with flavours of Calvados and a hint of mint.
